I understand your concern with regard to "rules," but would respectfully
like to point out that Smarts has less conditional exceptions by far
that Sharps.
Not only does it not exclude plurals and quasi-proper names, but it also
works with more than two entities as in N PP KAI N PP KAI N PP ..... etc.
Also, Murray Harris states the rule but makes an exception for John
20:28 on questionable grounds, see my post on Hebraic influence. Since
his exceptions are not applicable the rule stands. There have been no
exceptions found to Smarts, including 1Ti 1:1 which in context (v5)
identifies God as the Father of Jesus.
