Greek, which I have been reading, studying, teaching, and publishing in for
thirty years,
... is MUCH MORE difficult than Hebrew, Arabic, French or German--
at least in terms of comparison of success.
However, what the above really means is that the above languages all have
efficient ways of getting
inside them.
Greek has not had that.
Therefore, I am a living example and firm believer in the failure of the
grammar/translation
methods of language learning (whether deductively or inductively).
[I say that as a linguist with no problem whatsoever in learning paradigms
and
rules or inventing new ones. It's just that learning a language is much
more than that, and working with a language analytically
for thirty years can't overcome that.]
