Dear Steve,

Thanks for the reply. BAGD considers TO TRITON as a substantive, and
considers the usage in John 21:17 as an adverbial one.

LSJ notes TRITON as an adverb meaning "thirdly" or "a third time." They
note the phrase TOUTO TRITON, "this third time," (cf. Num 22:32). LSJ
mentions the usage in John 21:17 alongside the one in Num 22:32. They add
that the usage in Homeric writings is always TO TRITON.
