The expression AIWNAS TWN AIWNWN is quite common in the NT.
The expression in singular -- AIWNA TOU AIWNOS -- is found in only, I
think, Hebrews 1:8, but also over 20 times in the LXX Psalms. The
expression in several additional Psalms are also in singular, but
anarthrous -- AIWNA AIWNOS -- interesting because these are found mostly
in a block (i.e., they are found between Ps. 18 and 36, with no cases of
the expression *with* article in this block).
Revelation 14:11 appears to be an anomaly, being the only such
anarthrous expression in the LXX or NT in plural (AIWNAS AIWNWN):
KAI hO KAPNOS TOU BASANISMOU AUTWN EIS AIWNAS AIWNWN ANABAINEI...
My question:
What is the reason for this anomaly? I don't know of any change in the
meaning of EIS AIWNAS AIWNWN due to its unique anarthrous plural form.
Is there?
