Steven,

Well, I noticed on my own the chiastic character of your original two
examples (Mt. 7:6 and Phil. 5), so at least that speaks well for the
relative objectivity of the phenomenon actually being there.

The bibliography I have on Phil. 5 (taken from the index to _Chiasmus in
Antiquity_) is as follows:

J.A. Bengel, _Gnomon Novi Testamenti_, 1st ed. (Tubingen, 1742); 2nd ed.
(Tubingen, 1759); 3rd ed. (Tubingen 1835-36/1850/1855/Stuttgart, 1860);
Engl. translation of 2nd ed. by R. Andrew as _Gnomon of the New Testament
(Edinburgh: T & T Clark, 1858-59), in 5 vols.; new translation by C.T.
Lewis and M.R. Vincent (Philadelphia: Perkinpine & Higgins/New York:
Sheldon & Co., 1860-62), in the Glossary s.v. "Chiasmus."

Nils Lund in Crozer Quarterly 20:106.

The bibliography on Mt. 7:6 as a chiasm is more extensive:

John Jebb, _Sacred Literature_ (London: T. Cadell & W. Davies, 1820), 339,
cited as "epanados" in T.H. Horne, _An Introduction to the Critical Study
and Knowledge of the Holy Scriptures_, numerous editions following the
first edition of 1818; 5th U.S. ed. in 2 vols. (Philadelphia: Desilver
Thomas & Co., 1836) [based on the 7th London ed. (1834)], 2:467.

John Forbes, _Symmetrical Structure of Scripture_ (Edinburgh: T & T Clark,
1854), 43.

R. G. Moulton, _The Literary Study of the Bible_ (London, 1896/Boston:
D.C. Heath, 1899), 51, cited in di Marco, Linguistica Biblica, 39:54.

Lund, Crozer Quarterly, 20:105.

Lund, _Chiasmus in the New Testament_, 32 [since you have this book in
your library, you might look at that page to see what Lund has to say on
this verse].

Glasson in Expository Times, 68:302.

di Marco in Linguistica Biblica, 39:39.

The above bibliography is in a reprint edition of a book first published
at Gerstenberg Verlag, Hildesheim in 1981, so any literature on chiasmus
in these passages from the last 20 years would not be included here (one
would need to look at the Chiasmus Bibliography I mentioned in my last
post, which I do not own, for that info).
