How is it a fact that THE sin of sodom was inhospitality? Granted, Lot gave
his own obligation to hospitality as his reason for not wanting to turn over
his guests (Genesis 19:8). But that does not imply that the sin in the
townspeople's demand to force sex on the visitors was merely inhospitality.
In fact, the reason the two angels came to Lot's house was to warn him of
judgment God had already decided against sodom, which implies that the
following incident of "inhospitality" was not the reason for the judgment.
There is no direct statement in Genesis 18 of what THE sin was: only God's
statement to Abraham that He was going to destroy Sodom.

In my way of thinking, the fact that the rest of the verse describes the
sexual immorality of sodom and gomorrah would be evidence that EKPORNEUW
*does* refer to sexual immorality. Jude does in fact seem to repeat himself
in the text: verse 8, KURIOTHTA DE AQETOUSIN, DOXAS DE BLASFHMOUSIN
(despise authority, blaspheme majesty); verse 12, "clouds without water . .
. trees whose fruit withers"; verse 15 "PERI PANTWN TWN ERGWN ASEBEIAS AUTWN
hWN HSEBHSAN (concerning all their works of ungodliness [in] which they were
ungodly); verse 16, GOGGUSTAI, MEMPSIMOIROI (murmerers, complainers).
Granted, the items in each series are not entirely redundant -- they vary
slightly in meaning; but their meanings at least overlap, and so I would
expect the meanings of EKPORNEUSASAI and APELQOUSAI OPISW SARKOS hETERAS to
overlap in a similar way.
