Hi!
I'm currently translating 1 Peter, and finding it a little tricky. By
the way, I've heard his second letter is a lot easier - did people
complain about the difficulty of his first (or wouldn't they have found
it as tricky as I do)?
Anyway, I've got a little problem with 3:21...
hO KAI hUMAS ANTITUPON NUN SWZEI BAPTISMA...
and particularly the word ANTITUPOS/ANTITUPON.
In one of my lexicons it's listed as an adjective, and in another TO
ANTITUPON is also listed as a noun. I know TUPOS is a 'type' or
'likeness', but what is ANTITUPOS/ANTITUPON? Does it mean the same or
something different? I don't really understand what the lexicon says
about it (which isn't much). So is it a noun or an adjective? (And if an
adjective is it a substantive?) And how does it fit in with the rest of
the sentence? Does it modify BAPTISMA, or is it in apposition to it, or
is it related to the previous verse?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
