*your testing* (not trial which would be peirazo)- i.e.- the daily tests of
life. such tests demonstrate the students fitness in the school of the master.

it isnt faith which is tested- as your second translation suggests-- but YOU
yourself.

i would suggest a better rendering than the traditional as well...

"knowing this- that the tests you endure, you faithful ones, result in
steadfastness"
