a septuagintism. the hebrew phrase is (from ex 3 for example) ehyeh asher
ehyeh... which is for all practical purposes merely a way of saying *i am
presently that which i presently am* cumbersome english, difficult greek.
so the translators of the lxx paraphrased (rather like the living bible).
in fact, one would not be going too far astray to call the lxx (in its
numerous incarnations) the *living bible* of second temple judaism. the one
major characteristic of the living bible, and all paraphrases (like the lxx)
is that they greatly simplify the text.
