Decided to go on and do some work today after spending the morning more or
less in shock over the news.
R. Bauckham (WBC Jude/2Pt p.255) understands KURIOTHTOS in 2PT2:10 as the
"athority of the Lord." After reading his comments on this and on Jude 8
several times as well as the comments in Huther (Meyer's Handbook), JB Mayor
and Henry Alford, I find Bauckhams reading rather far fetched.
The local discourse prominence of supernatural beings (angles, etc. both
good/evil) in 2PT2:10 and Jude 8 would point in the direction that
KURIOTHTOS would be an indirect reference to such beings. The singular form
is no problem if it is viewed as an abstract reference to authority of the
supernatural type, but not to divine authority.
I have a hard time making sense out of Bauckham's reading since it seems to
introduce a subject which isn't under discussion.
