If you look backwards for the antecedent of EN W (beginning of 1:6) you
will find it hard to locate. Sure, KAIRW ESCATW is right there but it
doesn't look like a good candidate. Why would a time (as a substantive)
KAIRW ESCATW be a reason for AGALLIASQE? I looked all the way back to the
beginning of 1:3 and could not find what looked like a suitable antecedent.
The suggestion has been made that the antecedent is vaguely a combination of
TO POLU AUTOU ELEOS, ELPIDA ZWSAN, KLHRONOMIAN, SWTHRIAN and so forth.
But it think there is a better solution.

EN W (beginning of 1:6) is probably a temporal expression adverbially
limiting AGALLIASQE. Taking AGALLIASQE ( both in 1:6 and 1:8) as a present
with a future sense, EN W can be understood as "when" or perhaps "at which
time" if you want to be pedantic. This is the approach taken by J. R.
Michaels (WBC) and H. Alford.

greetings,

Clay
