Isn't that a big assumption? That is: simply because you can point and click
your way to Elysian fields of data, that fact alone means you really
understand what you can access. I dunno though that people always show
evidence of having assimilated even what they've cut and pasted. I think it
was Clifford Stolz who said, "Data is not knowledge, and knowledge is not
wisdom.

You're right. With so much information, even good stuff sounds like more
noise. That's why I like e-forums. I think Plato was right: most good
stuff comes out through dialogue. Although he might not like the fact that
we're typing it out. Still, he was also right in saying that writing, far
from being an aide de memoire, kills it. The more data we feel we must
master, the more confused we all become. Then even real wisdom becomes just
another choice on the smorgesbord.
