Greetings all:

Rom 9.6 OUC hOION DE hOTI EKPEPTWKEN hO LOGOS TOU QEOU.

According to BGAD and B-D-F, OUC hOION ... hOTI is a mixture of OUC hOION
and OUC hOTI. But what is the syntactic relationship of the hOTI clause to
hOION as things stand in Rom 9.6? It seems that hOION is a predicate
nominative completing an implied ESTIN. Is the hOTI clause subordinate to
hOION, functioning as an epexegetical clause? That is, does it complete the
thought of hOION, so that the idea is, "But it is not such a thing as that
the word of God has failed"? That's a very rough English rendering, but I
think you get the point.
