The President has announced the
Universal Service, or "E-Rates" (Education Rates), program for schools and
libraries, allowing massive discounts on technology-related products and
services, big news for those of us concerned with getting our classrooms,
schools and school systems on-line. Below you'll find a list of resources
for finding out more about this incredible opportunity, and how to make
use of it!
NECA, the National
Exchange Carrier Association, offers information and guides for
schools wanting to make use of E-Rates.
LearnNET is the FCC's own
site for the latest news on E-Rates and applications for discounts.
The US Dept. of Education
offers information on technology initiatives, including but not limited to
the E-Rates program.
Merit Networks,
Inc., provides a resource for calculating your school's discount
percentage and where to get information on getting new technologies.
McREL
offers news, general information and resources on state/local initiatives
for taking advantage of the E-Rates program.
EDLiNC is the Education &
Library Networks Coalition. Their site has loads of information of
interest to all of us, but especially about the E-Rates program.
