History Resources for Teachers

Teaching History Using the Internet in a K-12 Setting
An EXCELLENT project modelled on a paper presented by the site's author at the Computers and History 95 Conference: "Information Technologies for History Education". Many many ideas as well as reference materials, hyperlinked and easily followed. Kudos to author Frans Hoffman.
Patterns of our Lives: American History
One of our in-house resources, this extensive list was created by metalab's own Kelly Jo Garner. It includes an example project and many Internet sites to visit.
Social Science Information Technology Server
Access well over 600 comprehensive descriptions of scientific software programs, and check out their software catalog with specialized scientific programs.
Martin Luther King Jr.
A new educational Web site from The Seattle Times commemorates the life of the slain civil-rights leader, including a photo tour of key events in the fight for civil rights. Timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the national King holiday, the site includes a dialogue between students in Alabama and Washington states, a quiz and study guide and sound clips from his speeches.
Adventure Online
Incorporates science and social studies into adventure trips -- including a rafting expedition on the Nile, kayaking in Greenland, and -- for the 1998/99 school year, an Artic solo passage by John Waterman. Students can keep track of the adventurer's progress, learn about the area, and celebrate their success. A great class project.
America's Heroes and You!
A new curriculum for elementary and middle school students, focuses on the lives of eleven American heroes to foster citizenship and offer positive role models for principals, teachers and students.
