The KRC cultivates grassroots support for public policies that encourage family farming and stewardship of soil and water. The Center is committed to economically viable, environmentally sound and socially sustainable rural culture.

Objectives: KRC's work focuses on:
  • Farming practices that protect the environment and farm profitability.
  • Marketing strategies that increase farmer access and control over markets.
  • Public policies that support sustainable farming practices and marketing opportunities.
  • Social models that enhance quality of life for communities.
Activities include:
  • The Heartland Network consists of over 125 farm families in 12 "cluster communities" developing integrated farming systems.
  • The Clean Water Farms Project offers cost-share to demonstrate low-cost, management-based clean water farming practices.
  • The Sustainable Food System Project promotes local and regional food systems as a means to enhance rural economies and consumer connection to food production.
