Larrea tridentata, the chaparral bush: antioxidant,
liver toxin or both?
Osha root, Ligusticum porterii, was a favorite herbal
remedy of Native Americans. Now it is threatened by overcollection
in the Western United States.
Bloodroot, Sanguinaria canadensis, long used for
coughs; now a source of antiplaque toothpaste.
Uva ursi, bearberry, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, its
diuretic properties are now in question, but a tea or extract
of the leaves may help fight urinary tract infections.
