Laid down at Brown Shipbuilding, Houston, Tex.; and commissioned 15 October 1944, Lt.(jg) George E.B. McDevitt in command.

During World War II LSM-87 participated in the following operations:

LSM-87 was decommissioned on 29 March 1946 at teh Charleston Navy Yard and sold to the Southeastern Pipeline Co., Atlanta, Ga., on 27 February 1948.
