USS LST-1072

LST-1072 was laid down on 16 February 1945 at Hingham, Mass., by the Bethlehem-Hingham Shipuyard, Inc.; launched on 20 March 1945; sponsored by Mrs. Florence Mitchell; and commissioned on 12 April 1945.

Following World War II, LST-1072 performed occupation duty in the Far East until early December 1945. [Decommissioned at Vancouver, Wash., Capt. Oba L. Logan her final skipper.] She was transferred to the military Sea Transportation Service on 2 April 1951 where she operated as USNS LST-1072. The ship was transferred to the Philippines on 13 September 1976. Renamed Tawi-Tawi (LT-512), she served as a prison ship. -- [information via Yeoman J.F. Waugh]
