Much of our ability to support you comes from your support of ibiblio. That need not be in for form of money, which is of course always welcomed and encouraged; it could be in the form of thanking UNC and NC officials for ibiblio services and for the university's support of ibiblio. Pachyderm

Pachyderm is a bi-annual international peer-reviewed journal that deals primarily with matters related to African elephant and African and Asian rhino conservation and management in the wild. It is also a platform for dissemination of information concerning the activities of the African Elephant, the African Rhino, and the Asian Rhino Specialist Groups of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC).

African Elephant Specialist Group (AfESG)

The African Elephant Specialist Group (AfESG) is a group of technical experts focusing on the conservation and management of African elephants. The broad aim of the AfESG is to promote the long-term conservation of Africa's elephants and, where possible, the recovery of their population to viable levels. Led by a volunteer Chair (currently Dr. Holly Dublin), the group consists of some 45 volunteer members drawn from all parts of the continent. All members are actively involved in some aspect of elephant conservation and/or management. The group meets approximately every one to two years to review status and trends of elephant populations and to discuss progress in specific areas related to conservation of the species.

Chinese Lunar Calendar

Many centuries ago, the Chinese had no means to measure time. The Yellow Jade Emperor, the Emperor of Heaven, decided to arrange a contest. He invited all animals to a race on his birthday. The first 12 animals who cross the swift current river and reach the designated shore would be assigned to the 12 Zodiac Years.

Mounted Search and Rescue (MSAR)

Search and rescue (SAR) is about finding and helping people who are lost and/or injured. Mounted SAR (MSAR) is a specialty within SAR, using horses for transportation and sometimes also as trained search animals, a la search dogs. This website provides a broad overview of MSAR skills, MSAR e-mail discussion groups, and MSAR units' websites.

Orange County Beekeepers Association

The Orange County Beekeepers Association meets every second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm at the County Extension Office in Hillsborough, NC. They discuss a variety of aspects of beekeeping in Orange County, including: colony management, beekeeping and honey bee problems and their solutions, and the development of markets for beekeeping products.
