Augustine Project
The mission of the Augustine Project is to improve the reading ability and thereby enhance the academic achievement of low-income children and teens who struggle with literacy skills. The project trains and supports volunteer tutors who provide free, one-on-one, long-term, Orton-Gillingham instruction in reading, writing and spelling. The project also offers teacher training opportunities for professional educators.
More Than Math
More Than Math integrates the visual arts into the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade mathematics curriculum using works of art from the collection of the Asheville Art Museum as the basis for problematic mathematical tasks using NC Standard Course of Study goals and objectives. More Than Math introduces and explores concepts shared by mathematics and the visual arts such as pattern, symmetry, proportion, perspective, balance and geometric form and stresses the importance of each individual’s perspective.
North Carolina Scholastic Media Association
The North Carolina Scholastic Media Association (NCSMA) serves scholastic journalism and works for its advancement. Member schools include junior high and high schools from across the state. A few elementary schools are also members.
North Carolina Artist-Blacksmiths Association
NC ABANA is the North Carolina Affiliate of the Artist Blacksmith Association of North America, an organization of men and women who are practicing and preserving the skills of blacksmithing. The organization includes hobbyists, farriers (people who shoe horses), blade smiths (knife makers), architectural fabricators, sculptors, museum interpreters, furniture makers, and other artists and craftsmen who utilize the traditional skills of the blacksmith to create useful and beautiful objects.
Correctional Education Association
The Correctional Education Association (CEA), founded in 1945, is a non-profit, professional association serving educators and administrators who provide services to students in correctional settings. The CEA is the largest affiliate of the American Correctional Association.
