Clinton Declares Major Disaster in Michigan

Hi, folks,
Just posted the July 24 grain update. This just arrived in my mailbox,
and would serve as an addendum in reference to the corn belt state of
Michigan where there was much hope for a bumper corn crop to help get us
out of the nearly empty stockpile situation...Geri Guidetti, The Ark

PRESIDENT CLINTON DECLARES MAJOR DISASTER IN MICHIGAN

President Clinton today declared a major disaster exists in the
State of Michigan and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local
recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms and flooding
beginning on June 21, 1996 through and including July 1, 1996.

The President's action makes Federal funding available to affected
local governments in a six county area. The counties include Bay,
Lapeer, Saginaw, Sanilac, St. Clair and Tuscola.

Federal funding is available to eligible local governments on a
cost-sharing basis for the repair or replacement of public facilities
damaged by the severe storms and flooding. Federal funding is also
available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures.

Federal Emergency Management Agency is continuing to conduct
damage surveys and additional counties may be added after the
assessments are completed.
