We are proud by association, to be friends of The Organic Centre.

I would like to thank Gearoid Mac Eochaidh for his informative and interesting tour of the Organic Centre on our recent visit there. Gearoid tells me they will have their own website in the future, in the meantime here's some information on a adventurous and worthy cause. For further information  email Gearoid eochaidh@iol.ie or use the Mohea guest book and I will forward your mail.
Regards,
Colm Corcoran.

The Organic Centre is Ireland's Centre for Information, courses and workshops on organic gardening and farming.

The Organic Centre has been established to meet the growing demand for information on organic gardening and farming. It is set in the unspoiled countryside of North Leitrim at the foot of unspoiled hill beside Lough Melvin, and is only a short drive from the main Sligo/Donegal road.. It is open to the public and offers a range of different courses and workshops for those interested in gaining knowledge and skills.

The Organic Centre is a non-profit making company limited by guarantee, Its aim is to establish and run a centre that will be of value to anyone with interest in organic production - whether they are an established organic grower, an amateur gardener or a curious consumer - and to ensure that it is, in every way a centre of excellence.

The Centre is an independent body that already has links to with national organic organisations in Ireland and with similar organisations abroad.
The project benefits from twenty years experience of organic growing and cultivation at Eden Plants and the North Leitrim Vegetable Growers co-operative.

The Centre is on a suitable site of 19 acres of level land of which, 2 acres will be divided to display gardens. These will include a number of vegetable plots, where a wide variety of vegetables and different methods of cultivation will be illustrated. Fruit gardens will also show a range of varieties and techniques. Herb gardens, cropping in polythene tunnels, a wild life garden, compost heaps and ornamental gardens will also be displayed.

The Organic Centre will have, and plans are now well in motion, to have a restaurant and shop to sell organic produce and garden necessities. Most importantly , it will have a comprehensive stock of literature an all organic related topics. The buildings are to be ecologically designed consuming minimum energy. The Centre will also undertake livestock and field research.

The project has received support from Leitrim County Enterprise fund, Leitrim County Enterprise Board and North Leitrim Glens Area Partnership Company Ltd.

The Board Members of the Organic Centre are Darina Allen, Rod Alston, Dolores Keegan, Gearoid Mac Eochaidh, Eibhlin Nic Eochaidh, Mary McDonnell, Dr. Helga Willer.

The Organic Centre is in need of financial support. Like us you can be a friend of the Centre for only £25 (about US$40) you receive an annual newsletter and free admission anytime during opening hours. They would be delighted with your support.

We wish them well.
