The University of Massachusetts Nantucket Field Station hosts senior researchers and graduate students working on all aspects of Nantucket's natural and human history. Specialties are plant and animal ecology, both marine and terrestrial, hydrology, glacial and coastal geology, and human land use history of our unique lowland heath vegetation. The Station also hosts field trips and small conferences. The research season is September through May. Two five credit undergraduate field biology courses are offered each summer, one for beginning and one for advanced students. The $675 (1994) cost for each includes tuition, fees, and housing, but not food, students provide and cook their own. For information and application materials, contact the course coordinator: Dr. Michael Shiaris, Shiaris@umbsky.cc.UMB.edu If you would like to request space for a teaching or research visit to Nantucket Island, please contact Dr. Wesley N.
