A Bibliography of the United States Navy and the Conflict in Southeast Asia, 1950-1975 Compiled by Dr. Edward. J Marolda Captain James Lesher, USNR Contemporary History Branch Naval Historical Center Washington, D.C. 1991 COMPILERS' NOTE This bibliography revises and updates [A Select Biblioqraphy of the United States Navy and the Southeast Asian Conflict, 1950- 1975], compiled by Edward J. Marolda and G. Wesley Pryce III and issued in November 1983. The greater number of titles cited in the new edition reflects the outpouring of books and articles on the Vietnam War since 1983. In addition, because of the growing attention to the role of women in war, the current edition of the bibliography presents a new subject category entitled Navy Women. A primary object of the earlier version and of the current work was to provide a bibliography that would enable researchers to identify the most comprehensive books and articles on the Navy's overall involvement in the struggle for Southeast Asia (hence the General Works section). Another goal was to present researchers only interested in specific subject areas with the fullest information on the sources treating those individual topics. Thus, some titles reappear in a number of separate subject categories. The subject categories were chosen to emphasize naval combat operations and other significant aspects of the Navy's experience in the war. The books, public documents, and articles cited in the bibliography can be found in the holdings of the Navy Department Library, located at the Naval Historical Center. We would like to give special thanks to the following individuals of the Naval Historical Center who advised us on new titles, reviewed copies of the compilation, and suggested useful revisions: Dr. Dean C. Allard, Director of Naval History; Dr. William S. Dudley, Senior Historian: Ms. Regina Akers of the Operational Archives Branch; Mr. Glenn E. Helm of the Navy Department Library; Lieutenant Commander Richard R. Burgess of the [Naval Aviation News] Branch; Dr. Mark Jacobsen and Mr. Dale W. Andrade of the Contemporary History Branch; and Ms. Sandra J. Doyle and Mr. Akio J. Stribling of the Editorial Section. Edwar-d J. Marolda James Lesher TRANSCRIBERS' NOTE One of the wonderful things about the computer age is the ability to share information and information sources with other people. We digitized the work in order that it could be passed along to anyone who wanted to learn more about the Vietnam war and didn't want pre-digested chunks of "factoids" but wanted to get the facts and make their own decisions about the war. We have kept the original text complete intact, the only change being the use of [brackets] instead of underlining for publication titles to make the file's format as "universal" as possible. The original index now has a note below each entry to indicate the file that is related to the chapter. Retrieving all the files listed and putting them together in the order shown in the table of content's will restore the book to it's orginal form for printing. If you find any errors in this file, please send a note to one of us and it will be corrected. (When you scan 100 pages of text, you WILL get errors.) Read about the war, and about the men and women who fought and who died in it, or survived the war only to die later, or the ones who survive to this day wondering if it will kill them yet. To those who died, and to those who lived, we owe a debt, and it will be paid only if we honor what they fought for.
