Argument: Lowering the national limit to 55 in 1973 saved lives.

Yes, in 1974 the fatality rate dropped about twice that of the normal trend but after that it returned to it normal trend and when the 65 mph speed limit went into effect the fatality rate continued to drop. 1974 was an unusual year.

It is scientifally unsound to come to the conclusion that the 55 save lives based on one year of data.
