alt.history.what-if

What would the net have been like without this group?

A newsgroup to discuss the alternate courses history
could have taken if events had happened a different way at various
junctures, such as, what if the South had won the Civil War by defeating
Meade at Gettysburg and causing Lincoln to lose the election of 1864 to
McClellan? This is a popular theme in science fiction and fantasy, but is
not limited to science fiction and fantasy. There exists a mailing list
dedicated to this subject which, among other things, has compiled quite a
  list of alternate historical themes.

LIST: Alternate History Stories, * of *
An annotated bibliography of novels, stories and essays involving
alternate histories (a.k.a. what-ifs, allohistories, uchronias
or counterfactuals), writings in which a past event has been
altered and its effect on history somehow described.
