Yiddish in USA (1990 Census).
Data on Yiddish usage in the United States in 1990 were derived from from the answers
to "Language Spoken at Home" items in 1990 census questionnaire. Respondents who were
born before April 1, 1985 and "sometimes or always spoke Yiddish at home" were counted.
Those who spoke only at school or if speaking was limited to a few expressions or slang
were not counted. HTML tables (you need Netscape 1.1 or later to view them) show the
distribution of Yiddish speakers by state and
by some metropolitan areas .
