You may find an useful informatin in a classical text-book for the Textual
Criticism: J H GREENLEE, _Introduction to the NT Textual Criticism_. Revised
Edition, Peabody, Hendricksen, 1995, who at the page 64 writes:
"Estienne's fourth edition (1551) contained the same Greek text as
the third edition, but it is notable for the first introduction of
the verse numeration which is still in use. Our chapter divisions
had been introduced about the year 1205 by Stephen Langton,
archbishop of Canterbury".
