The first thing I would say here is to keep in mind that Paul is using
different metaphers. He is speaking of the church as a body and also a
building. This leads to some unexpected turns between 4:11 and 16. Some
of the expressions come from building (SUNARMOLOGOUMENON, being framed
together), (SUMBIBAZOMENON, prob. of the parts of the body joined
together). It is from the latter that the idea of PASHS hAFHS THS
EPICORHGIAS, with Lightfoot, "what every joint supplies". Then seemingly
thinking of each member as a joint or part of the body/building, KAT'
ENERGIEAN EN METRWi hENOS hEKASTOU MEROUS, "in respect to the measure of
the part of each one" (hENOS almost seems unneeded but emphasizes each
individual part. MEROUS is genitive (3rd declen) and refers back to
METRWi.
