I'm not sure I share your premise that this is the only Sin that Paul feels
he has committed. Can you help me out with this? I suspect that Paul, like
me, has committed quite a variety of sins.

I think "death" is being used to indicate a state of being dead to God.
Somewhere in the Bible there is a verse that says "this is how we know that
we have passed from death into life" - I can't look it up now.
