Roma 7:5 (GNT) hOTE GAR HMEN EN THi SARKI, TA PAQHMATA TWN hAMARTIWN
TA DIA TOU NOMOU ENHRGEITO EN TOIS MELESIN hHMWN,
EIS TO KARPOFORHSAI TW QANATW:

The interest of these words rests with ENHRGO, *to set into operation*,
hence *arouse*, *stimulate into action* etc.
When the *law* intrudes, it sets sinful passions into action.
This is not to say that the *law* is really to blame, it is used by
something else which Paul calls *Sin* to make people commit *sins*.
*Sinful passions* are the result of *Sin* using the law as a weapon.
Oscar Wilde said something like:
the only way to get rid of temptation is to give in to it.
Paul says something like:
the only way to get rid of sinful passions is to get rid of the law

cheers
