hypothetical.rooting=etymology

whether etymology enriches or defeats understading depends on who you are.

if you live when a rooter meaning, e.g. bug=insect as root of debug, is still
in vogue, then it might enrich greatly.

if curfew has lost all trace of 'cover fire' then it just could be a barrier to
better appreciation.

on the texas prairie sister ledbetter always insisted that heresy was the same
as hearsay. the correspondence of the dear old soul would be greatly enhanced
by knowing a little false etymology. witness isidore of seville.

it's hard to say anything true about any language. (that especially goes for
all the baloney, my apologies to all the great j.u.d.'s of bologna, about gr.'s
being more precise -- still observing gen. subjects of gerunds, i.)
