I suspect that they insert the phrases "Thus he declared" and " In saying
this Jesus declared" to make certain that the reader of the English
translation did not infer that this was a part of the direct citation of
Jesus words. They interpret the particple KAQARIZWN as the nominative
particple in grammatical concord with the subject of the verg LEGEI in v.18.
