The phrase hOMIOS hORASEI seems to mean "looks like", or more woodenly,
"like, with respect to appearance, to..." I notice that this phrase does not
occur elsewhere in the GNT or the LXX, and it strikes me as strange. Is this
good Greek? There is a similar phrase in 1 Sam 16:12 (KAI AGAQOS hORASEI
KURIWi), which I, quite frankly, don't know how to parse. I don't know that
there are likely to be any hermeneutical breakthroughs hidden in this
phrase, but it struck me as odd, and I would like to understand it better.
The words used here and in the rest of the passage seem rather similar to
Ezekiel 1:5:
Ezek 1:5 (LXX) KAI EN TWi MESWi hWS hOMOIWMA TESSARWN ZWiWN KAI hAUTH hH
hORASIS AUTWN hOMOIWMA ANQRWPOU EP AUTOIS.
Am I right in assuming that this is more than coincidence, that the author
of the Revelation intentionally wanted to invoke an association with this
passage in Ezekiel?
BAGD refers to several passages in Philo, which I don't have. Could someone
tell me what these texts say? Philo Mech. 51, 10; 62, 23.
