Rogers & Rogers (Rienecker/Rogers replacement)

Readers of B-GREEK may recall that in a post some days
back I mentioned that I had seen no information regarding
the replacement of Rienecker/Rogers except that it
was in preparation. I subsequently received a note from
an editor at Zondervan confirming that the work was
forthcoming. Then a couple of days ago a letter that was
faxed to me several days ago by Dr. Cleon Rogers Jr.
providing the fullest information I have yet seen about this
forthcoming work. When I offered to post it to this list he
said he would be more than glad for me to do so; so here it is:

"Dear Mr. Ernest,
"My son saw your comments regarding the new edition of A New
Exegetical and Linguistic Key to the Greek New Testament in your
response to a question posed by C. Sanford. Well, "es gibt so was!"
The old edition of the Rienecker/Rogers KEY has been replaced by
a completely new work which my son, Cleon III, and I have written,
and it should be published by Zondervan in the next few months.

"The work includes references to modern commentaries, to relative
lit., such as journal articles, monographs, references to various
grammatical works, including the modern works as well as the
standard ones, references to ancient lit. and more exegetical
comments on the use and meaning of the grammatical forms in their
context. The attempt is to provide the student of the NT with a
handbook for the study of the NT that is more than just a parsing
guide."

Dr. Rogers continues with compliments on the the English version
of Spicq, which he says is among the works cited. He also notes
that he is well acquainted with Prof. von Siebenthal (whose work,
which is being translated for Hendrickson Publishers, I had
mentioned in my own posting), who not only is a friend of his but
also teaches at the theological institution in Germany that Dr.
Rogers founded and served as president.

(It's a small world, after all....)

As a kind of postscript, and in response to queries I have
received since mentioning the translation of the Haubeck/
von Siebenthal work (the German replacement of Rienecker),
I can only say at this point that the translation work is in an
early stage and that publication of the whole is months--
probably a couple of years--in the future.
