Greek grammars (one other question)

Steven asked for recommendations for someone who is teaching
themself and has just finished Dobson's course. I have read the replies
and am wondering if the responses would be different in recommending a
grammar for someone who is teaching his/herself and who has no knowledge
of Greek. I used Hewitt when I learned and suggested Machen to a friend
(who has no knowledge of Greek) because of its format and the simple way
in which it presents the language. I am beginning to see that this wasn't
such a good suggestion... Thanks for your time.
