Although it is certainly true that the Good News Bible _began_ for
readers of a type of 'basic' English, one reason it is scarcely
mentioned these days is that it is not as truly basic in later
editions as at first.  The audience (see the current prefaces) is the
international community of English speaker (perhaps especially those
who don't have a background in biblical knowledge).
