As an apotropaic measure, fearing that b-greek may not be digestible as
digest, some of us just steer clear of the Beast!

It's been over twenty years since I did my paper on the geography of
the Gospels and I don't recall many of the sources, but I cited in my paper
and mapped out over twenty-four synagoues that were first century in the
Galilee area. I visited sites in Tiberius, Capernaum and northwest portions
of the Galilee region. Tiberias had a number of synagogues. The
Palestinian Talmud was a great source. The Encylopedia Judaica is helpful.
Sorry I can't locate my paper for more specific information.

Subject: John 1:13
I had a question about John 1:13. The relative pronoun (oi) and the
verb (egennhthhsan) have this verse point back in reference to verse 12
concerning the spiritual birth of the believer. I noticed that there are a
few texts that have the relative pronoun as masculine singular and the verb
third person singular, which would direct verse 13 to be a commentary on the
virgin birth of Jesus Christ in verse 14. It appears that some of these
alternate texts are earlier in origin than the preferred texts.
Tertullian's text which is quite early, prefers the singular forms. That
text was later changed by the Valintinians to the plural form. To me it
seems that the context of verse 13 accepts the singular form and points
ahead to verse 14. What do some of you think?
