For some interesting comments and translation by a classically trained
scholar check out "Grace and Law: St. Paul, Kant, and the Hebrew
Prophets," by Heinz W. Cassirer. Cassirer not only did his own
translation of the entire NT but translated Sophocles' "Oedipus at
Colonus."
Cassirer's translation of Romans 7:24 is: "Wretched man that I am! Who
will deliver me from a body doomed to such a death as this [literally: of
this death]?"
