On first reading of Acts 5:40 I marveled that TOUS APOSTOLOUS were the
recipients of no less than four actions, from two participles and two finite
verbs in two clauses. It seemed like this was a lot of weight to bear on an
accusative which was mentioned only once.
TOUS APOSTOLOUS were summoned, beaten, commanded and released all
without the use of any pronouns.
I suspected that this extremely economical use of accusative might not fair
well with some scribes. Apparently it did not fair well because *AUTOUS*
appears in the second clause in: D E Y Maj. lat sy Lcf.
