What's happened to B-Greek?

As several more inquiries have come in to me this morning (5 a.m. CST in
St. Louis, not in Australia or UK, of course), I've decided to formulate a
"stationery" response to use for any more that come in before the problem
is resolved.

No, you're not missing anything that's really going on. My guess is that a
major storage disk or tape drive or something at the University of Virginia
on which the programs governing B-Greek and probably several other lists
handled by majordomo@virginia.edu has crashed. The list-owner, David John
Marotta, has been contacted, but as yet we have no response from him. We
hope that we can reconstitute the list from information that we have (I
have a list of subscribers to both the regular list and to the digest less
than two weeks old). Perhaps even the information on the crashed disk/drive
can be retrieved, but I don't know how long this will take. If worse comes
to worst, there remains a possibility of re-establishing the list from a
different server at a different site, but I hope that won't be necessary.
At any rate, be assured that the existence of the problem is known, but how
soon things can be re-established remains a big question. All we can do is
urge patience, so just hang in there!

Thanks for your interest and for your continued patience for as long as it
should be called for. Regards, cwc
