Dear B-Greekers,
I have been working with the concepts of surface structure and deep
structure as of late, and I'm trying an experiment on Matt. 12:32. The
text reads as follows:
hOS D' AN EIPH KATA TOU PNEUMATOS TOU hAGIOU OUK AFEQHSETAI AUTWi OUTE
EN TOUTWi TWi AIWNI OUTE EN TWi MELLONTI
My question:
Is it syntactically possible to paraphrase the text,
"whoever blasphemes the Holy Spirit, either in this age or in the
coming one, will never be forgiven."
Does this deep structure rendition do extreme violence to the syntax
of Matt. 12:32?
Thanks,
Edgar Foster
