Dear Carl,

The one I came across with is the phrase in Romans 4:16 but I guess it's not the same as EIS TOUTO. It is EIS TO rather. I sort of translated that one as "unto this:" with a colon in the English.

Regards,

Lemuel

Rick, it's generally true, even in Attic, that forms of hOUTOS have
backwards reference but can also have forward reference. The problem with
the sort of broad generalization you're setting forth here is the absence
of any examples of what you're talking about. What bothers me most about
your formulation is the phrase, "any number of words"; "a few words," or
"several words," perhaps, but I don't think I'd be looking for the
anticipated clause at the other end of a sentence as long as Faulkner's
short story, "The Bear."
