I am pleased to announce that I have just posted a new tool for exploring possible synonyms of Greek and Latin words on the Perseus web site (http://www.perseus.tufts.edu).
This tool is fully integrated with the Lewis and Short Latin Lexicon and the Liddell, Scott, and Jones Greek Lexicon in Perseus. To see the possible synonyms for a word, simply look up that word in the Greek ( http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/lexindex?lang=Greek ) or Latin ( http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/lexindex?lang=Latin ) lexicon.
A table will appear at the head of each dictionary entry suggesting possible synonyms for the word. You can view the dictionary entries for the suggested synonyms by clicking on the word. A list of more suggested synonyms is available by following the links below the table.
See, for example, the definitions for the Latin pudor ( http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/lexindex?lookup=pudor&lang=Latin )or the Greek muthos ( http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/lexindex?lookup=mu=qos&lang=Greek ).
These synonym lists were created entirely by computational methods, so not every suggested synonym will be appropriate. Please feel free to send comments and suggestions about this tool either to me directly or to webmaster@perseus.tufts.edu.
