shalom B.J.

the main question of AUTWN in mt 5.3,10 is
1. whether AUTWN is the kind of people, 'from them, of people such as
these'
that the rule of God consists
or
2. whether AUTWN is a possessive, 'theirs, the people who own the rule of
God'

A minority correctly read like number 1, a similar construction as with the
'children' later in the gospel.

The decisive factor becomes the kind of meaning that one sees in Kingdom of
Heaven and which phrase above was more probable for a first-century Jewish
culture.
