I can recommend Charles A. Wanamaker's commentary on 1 and 2
Thessalonians in NIGTC. His is the first commentary to use rhetorical
criticism on these letters. Needless to say we disagree on the
authorship of 2 Thessalonians and his reversal of the order of 1 and 2
Thessalonians. (He thinks Paul wrote 2 Thess. and then later wrote 1
Thess.) It is a good, careful, and solid piece of work and makes the
best case that can be made for the reversal theory. Its author is an
American who studied with C. K. Barrett in Durham and now teaches at the
University of Cape Town.
