As I recall, Raymond Brown in _The Birth of the Messiah_ discusses the
practices of adoption with reference to the relationship of Jesus and
Joseph and the genealogies of Jesus in Matthew and Luke. This is, of
course, not really a question about Greek but about social law in NT Jewish
culture.
