In both cases hO QEOS is the subject, since it is articular and PNEUMA and
AGAPH are not. They are therefore predicate nominatives. The copulative verb
ESTIN is not really necessary. In each case the predicate nominative is what
I would call "qualitative," in the above cases expressing nature or essence.
These types of constructions in John have bearing on the interpretation of
Jn 1.1 (which I won't get into here).
