The difference is also, as I mentioned before, absent in the Syriac version,
which uses one verb throughout. Considering that Syriac did at least have
both AXXeB (Aph. of XBB) and RXeM, it seems like it wouldn't have been out
of the question to render the distinction somehow. (I should add, too, that
the Aramaic of the Targums seems to have both words available.) It's
certainly not conclusive that there was no distinction, but it does suggest
that it wasn't a distinction that was immediately apparent to the Semitic
mind.
